Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MSFGG4024 - Assess designed glass conservation requirements

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare to assess conservation requirements

  1. Identify from relevant personnel and job instructions the assessment’s purpose and requirements
  2. Inspect the location of the designed glass installation and identify security, access, storage and other relevant arrangements
  3. Identify hazards relating to the location, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating
  4. Select and check all required tools and equipment are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
  5. Identify suitable assessment procedures and techniques and obtain approval from relevant personnel to use them

Assess conservation requirements

  1. Position plans and historical documents to allow for confirmation of the structure and placement of the designed glass installation
  2. Photograph the installation to create a photographic sequence documenting its condition and for later reference
  3. Identify and document the installation’s structural and other relevant features, faults and past treatments according to workplace procedures
  4. Assess and document the impacts on the installation of environmental factors according to workplace procedures
  5. Clean up the assessment area, identify items for recycling and dispose of waste
  6. Check, clean and do routine maintenance on equipment and tools and store them and unused materials
